David Gilmour in Concert

Udgivet oktober 2002

More Furious Madness from the Massed Gadgets of Auximenes".

Shine on You Crazy Diamond(prt 1-5) [10:38] (Wright, Waters, Gilmour)

Remember when you were young,
You shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond
Now there's a look in your eyes,
Like black holes in the sky
Shine on you crazy diamond
You were caught on the crossfire
Of childhood and stardom,
Blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter,
Come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!

You reached for the secret too soon,
You cried for the moon.
Shine on you crazy diamond
Threatened by shadows at night,
And exposed in the light
Shine on you crazy diamond
Well you wore out your welcome
With random percision,
Rode on the steel breeze
Come on you raver, you seer of visions,
Come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!

That was about our old freind Syd who really did....
He really did have a lie [.....]
and his brain is dead.
This one is by him

Terrapin [2:57] (Barrett)

I really love you and I mean you
The star above you, crystal blue
Well, oh baby my hair's on end about you

I wouldn't see you and I'd love to
I fly above you, yes I do
Well, oh baby my hair's on end about you

Floating, bumping, noses dodge, a tooth, a fins a luminous
fangs all round, the clam is dark, below the boulders
hiding all the sunlight's good for us
'coz we're the fishes and all we do
a move about is all we do
Well, oh baby my hair's on end about you

Floating, bumping, noses dodge, a tooth, a fins a luminous
fangs all round, the clam is dark, below the boulders
hiding all the sunlight's good for us
'coz we're the fishes and all we do
a move about is all we do
Well, oh baby my hair's on end about you

I really love you and I mean you
The star above you, crystal blue
Well, oh baby my hair's on end about you

Fat Old Sun [3:28] (Gilmour)

When the fat old sun in the sky is falling
Summer evenin' birds are calling
Summer's thunder time of year
The sound of music in my ears
Distant bells, new mown grass
Smells so sweet
By the river holding hands
Roll me up and lay me down
And if you sit don't make a sound
Pick your feet up off the ground
And if you hear as the warm night falls
The silver sound from a time so strange
Sing to me, sing to me
When that fat old sun in the sky is falling
Summer evenin' birds are calling
Children's laughter in my ears
The last sunlight disappears
And if you sit don't make a sound
Pick your feet up off the ground
And if you hear as the warm night falls
The silver sound from a time so strange
Sing to me, sing to me
When that fat old sun in the sky is falling

Thank you all very much
Another litlle blast from the past there

Coming Back to Life [5:23] (Gilmour)

Where were you when I was burned and broken
While the days slipped by from my window watching
And where were you when I was hurt and I was helpless
Because the things you say and the things you do surround me
While you were hanging yourself on someone else's words
Dying to believe in what you heard
I was staring straight into the shining sun
Lost in thought and lost in time
While the seeds of life and the seeds of change were planted
Outside the rain fell dark and slow
While I pondered on this dangerous but irresistible pastime
I took a heavenly ride through our silence
I knew the moment had arrived
For killing the past and coming back to life
I took a heavenly ride through our silence
I knew the waiting had begun
And headed straight into the shining sun

Thats a song dedicated to my lovely wife Polly

High Hopes [8:32] (Gilmour, Samson)

Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young
In a world of magnets and miracles
Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary
The ringing of the division bell had begun

Along the Long Road and on down the Causeway
Do they still meet there by the Cut

There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps
Running before times took our dreams away
Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground
To a life consumed by slow decay

The grass was greener
The light was brighter
When friends surrounded
The nights of wonder

Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us
To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side
Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again
Dragged by the force of some inner tide
At a higher altitude with flag unfurled
We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world

Encumbered forever by desire and ambition
There's a hunger still unsatisfied
Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon
Though down this road we've been so many times

The grass was greener
The light was brighter
The taste was sweeter
The nights of wonder
With friends surrounded
The dawn mist glowing
The water flowing
The endless river

Forever and ever

Last time I played here...was in 1969...
I was doing this. I was, I ws, I was holding my guitar and I put my hand on the microphone.
I got jumped to the other side of the drum kit. He was'nt quite as far a way.
I felt rough,
but I was the lucky one.

Je crois entendre encore [3:50] (Musik Bizet, tekst Carre og Cormon, arrangeret af Gilmour)

Je crois entendre encore
Caché sous les palmiers
Sa voix tendre et sonore
comme un chant de ramier

O nuit enchanteresse
Divin ravissement
O souvenir charmant
folle ivresse, doux reve

Aux clartés des étoiles
je crois encore la voir
entr'ouvrir ses longs voiles
aux vents tiédes du soir

O nuit enchanteresse
Divin ravissement
O souvenir charmant
folle ivresse, doux reve

Charmant souvenir, charmant souvenir

It's from Bizet's opera "The Parrfisher". And this isn't.
Ahm... this is a new one so if you're bootlegging...
start your machines now

Smile [3:57] (Gilmour, Samson)

Would this do
to make it allright
while sleep has taken you
where I'm out of sight

I'll make my getaway
time on my own
Search for a better way
to find my way home
to your smile

Wasting days and days
on this fight
always down and up
half the night

Hopeless to reminisce
through the dark hours
We'll only sacrifice
what time will allow us
you're sighing... sighing

All alone
though you're right here
Now it's time to go
from your sad stare

Make my getaway
time on my own
leaving's a better way
to find my way home
to your smile... smile

Thank you Aitch
Thank you Niel. Niel MacColl here

Wish You Were Here [4:59] (Waters, Gilmour)

So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from Hell,
Blue skys from pain.
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?

And did they get you to trade
Your heros for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?

How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl,
Year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

Comfortably Numb [7:27] (Waters, Gilmour)

Robert Wyatt i sin rullestol ude fra sidelinien Hello?
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone at home?
Come on, now,
I hear you're feeling down
Well I can ease your pain
Get you on your feet again.
Relax
I'll need some information first
Just the basic facts
Can you show me where it hurts?

There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship, smoke on the horizon
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying
When I was a child I had a fever
My hands felt just like two balloons
Now I've got that feeling once again
I can't explain you would not understand
This is not how I am.
I have become comfortably numb

O.K.
Just a little pin prick.
There'll be no more aaaaaaaaah!
But you may feel a little sick
Can you stand up?
I do believe it's working, good.
That'll keep you going through the show
Come on it's time to go

There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship, smoke on the horizon
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying
When I was a child
I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
The child is grown,
The dream is gone.
I have become comfortably numb.

Thank you very much indeed.
Thank you Robert.

This one has got nothing what so ever to do with me, but I like it.
It's by Richard Thompson called "The Dimming of the Day".

Diming of the Day [4:06](Richard Thompson)

This old house is falling down around my ears
I'm drowning in a river of my tears
When all my will is gone you hold me sway
I need you at the dimming of the day

You pull me like the moon pulls on the tide
You know just where I keep my better side

What days have come to keep us far apart
a broken promise or a broken heart
now all the bonny birds have wheeled away
I need you at the dimming of the day

Come the night you're only what I want
Come the night you could be my confidante

I see you in the street in compagny
Why don't you come and ease your mind wíth me
I'm living for the night we steal away
I need you at the dimming of the day
I need you at the dimming of the day

"Shine On You Crazy Diamond (6-9)" [7:47] (Waters, Gilmour, Wright)

Nobody knows where you are,
how near or how far.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Pile on many more layers
and I'll be joining you there.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
And we'll bask in the shadow
of yesterday's triumph,
and sail on the steel breeze.
Come on you boy child,
you winner and loser,
come on you miner for truth and delusion, and shine!

Thank you very much indeed. Thank you.
Thank you to all my wonderful musicians.
Michael Kamen over there on the piano and the english horn.
Niel MacColl assisting my amily on guitar and vocals.
Dick France over there with percussions, drums.
Our man from Columbia Chucho Merchan. Bassfloor guitar.
Caroline Dale here on the cello.
And the singers: Michelle, Carol, Sam, Aitch, Margo, Sonia,
Claudia, Hi Claudia, Chris, and Pete Brown over there.

"Play something from "Animals", please."
We'd still be here after turf-out time if we did that

A Great Day For Freedom [4:40]

On the day the wall came down
They threw the locks onto the ground
And with glasses high we raised a cry for freedom had arrived

On the day the wall cane down
The Ship of Fools had finally run aground
Promises lit up the night like paper doves in flight

I dreamed you had left my side
No warmth, not even pride remained
And even though you needed me
It was clear that I could not do a thing for you

Now life devalues day by day
As friends and neighbours turn away
And there's a change that, even with regret, cannot be undone

Now frontiers shift like desert sands
While nations wash their bloodied hands
Of loyalty, of history, in shades of gray

I woke to the sound of drums
The music played, the morning sun streamed in
I turned and I looked at you
And all but the bitted residue slipped away...slipped away

Hushabye Mountain [2:13] (Sherman, Sherman)

A gentle breeze from Husabye mountain
softly blows o'er Lullaby bay
It fills the sails of boats that are waiting
waiting to sail your worries away

It isn't far to Husabye mountain
and your boat waits down by the quay
The winds of night so softly are sighing
Soon they will fly your troubles to sea

So close your eyes on husabye mountain
wave goodbye to cares of the day

And watch your boat from Husabye mountain
sail far away from Lullaby Bay

Thank you very much indeed. Thank you. It's been really good fun. Thank you.

Additional tracks from
The Royal Festival Hall
2002
Well We've done one song about Syd Barrett already tonight.
This one is one of his songs as well.
It's called "Dominoes"

Dominoes [5:05] (Barrett)

It's an idea some day
in my tears, my dreams
Don't you want to see her prove
liffe that comes of no harm
You and I, you and I and dominoes
The day goes by

You and I in place
Wasting time on dominoes
a day so dark, so warm
life that comes of no harm
You and I and dominoes
Time goes by

Fireworks and heat some day
boulder shallow stickle some blade
overheard a lark today
bluesing when my mind's astray
Don't you want to know with your pretty hair
strech out your hand, glad fields in an echo for your way

It's an idea some day
In my tears in my dreams
Don't you want to see her prove
life that comes of no harm
you and I and dominoes
the day goes by

Breakthrough [8:23] (Wright, Moore)

We're going to do a song now from Rick Wright last solo-album.
And here to sing it is mr. Richard Wright.

Hi there. God evening.

I can take or leave it, won't be the woebegone
Don't need a model universe to hang your pictures on.
You hide somewhere, you die somewhere
And then this senseless thought,
By hating more you're feeling more
And that's how you get caught.

They're never going to make it easy
Of this you can be sure.
I greet you from the wilderness,
I'll stay inside your door.

There's no cage or prison, they have no fence too tall,
You die more times that anyone, there's still no place to fall.

They're never going to keep it simple
This comes down from above.
I have no helm, no secret realm,
I dream to be at the heart of love, a part of love.

I bet you can conceal it, but that's just a dead-end track,
I'll cover you like the driven snow and then I'll bring you back.
You'll see ! you feel like, you feel like a banner,
Unfurled and gently blown,
And there before your opening eyes
The self you've never known.

They're never going to make it easy
Of this you can be sure.
You feel untied, beatified
And loved for evermore

Comfortably Numb [7:05] (Waters, Gilmour)

Well, we'll do "Comfortably Numb" if you insist.
And to sing it with us tonight... we have mr Bob Geldof.
Hello Bob.
